The breeding standard at Dreamcatcher Meadows is very clear. We produce Hanoverian and Hanoverian/Thoroughbred cross horses that are gifted athletes with an emphasis on kindness and trainability. Homebred pedigrees are examined for gymnastic ability, beauty and correct conformation, but both sire and dam must have a very high score (typically 9 or 10) for rideability to qualify for producing our offspring. All too often we see stunning animals for sale with extravagant paces, yet they are only suitable for a top professional to ride. The philosophy at Dreamcatcher Meadows is to produce a rider’s “best friend” that will result in a happy partnership both on and off the saddle – safe for an amateur but talented enough for top level competition if that is the rider’s goal. Foals that meet our strict criteria are registered with the suffix “DMV”. At Dreamcatcher Meadows we are dedicated to ensuring that horses we offer for sale are matched with the ideal owner. Frequently we include in the sales contract price a period of time that includes the training of horse and new rider under our supervision. It is our passion and mandate to responsibly breed the best horses possible, but it is equally important to us that we hand them over to owners that have the training, temperament and resources to result in a happy, successful partnership. It is important to keep in mind that as in many things, you get what you pay for. There is considerable expense involved to produce a live, healthy foal or training a ridden horse to the standard we are happy to put our name to. The handling and training by professionals in a purpose designed environment ensures that you are purchasing an animal with a good history. Foal prices typically start at $10,000 plus applicable tax (for part Hanoverians) to stallion prospects that have sold in the region of $50,000. Price increases in the region of $5-$10,000 with each additional year in age, training and competition. Youngstock are in a handling and training program from birth; even our weanlingh have a good basis in proper manners and human interaction. Most are shown in breed shows, debuting as yearlings, thus providing a background that includes experience in all matters associated with competition (loading, trailering, bathing, braiding, etc.). Ridden horses not bred by us undergo training to meet our standards before being offered for sale. Our youngstock show record and breed society inspection results are proof that the industry’s respected top judges agree our breeding standards are first class. We are proud to have won many sport and breed classes in Canada, the United States and England. To date John Dingle is undefeated in 3 to 5 year old championships at FEI level. In 2011 he secured top honours: USDF Horse of the Year title for our homebred 3 year old Ballerina DMV; she was the top scoring of all 3 year olds in the United States with a median of over 85%! Of all 3, 4 and 5 year olds, all sexes, she was second only to a 5 year old stallion! See “News” for current and archived competition results.
The following youngsters are progeny from the FEI champion dressage mare Dreamcatcher
(Hanoverian registered as elite status “Daisy Dee”). She has six offspring from our embryo transfer
techniques, including the young stallion Dreammaster, rated as a serious dressage international
prospect. Embryo transfer allowed her to rise through the levels from attaining 5 and 6 Year Old
FEI Championships under Olympian Carl Hester in England to attaining the many FEI Inter 1 level
accolades in 2010 (including USDF Regional Inter 1 Freestyle Reserve Champion). Dreamcatcher
holds the distinction of being the first mare in North America to achieve AWS Five Star Status!
AWS President, Kathy Wilson explains: “Our Five Star program is designed to identify and award
outstanding horses. Each star recognizes a different accomplishment. Horses receive stars for their
own performance at National and International competitions as well as their offspring results –
difficult to complete due to these high demands”. This led to Dreamcatcher being named 2010 Dam
of the Year, son Dreammaster 2010 Stallion of the Year and yearling daughter Lady of the Dance
Young Horse of the year and the ultimate accolade – 2010 Horse of the Year.
