The Germans have long been recognized as the international masters of sports horse breeding. Particularly, the State Stud in Celle, Germany is world renowned for producing top stallions talented in dressage and jumping. After long negotiations the State Stud has agreed to sell one of its top young stallions, rated for excellence in both competitive disciplines to Dreamcatcher Meadows Elite Sport Horses in Pemberton, Canada.
Lokomotion, (Lordanos/ Landseiger) a fully licensed 300 day performance tested Hanoverian was bought by the State Stud Celle for its own breeding program at the 2005 Verden Stallion Licensing and Sales. Dr. Matthias Gorbert, Manager of the Breeding Administration of Saxony wrote in "The Hanoverian" magazine about the stud's new purchase: "He impressed in type and exterior. The licensing clearly showed that jumpers of modern type are often descendants of Holstein sires or that Holstein blood runs through their veins; a fact that deserves more attention in the breeding program for attractive jumper horses"
Dreamcatcher partners Jill Giese, John Dingle and Laurel McLaughlin have been actively searching for a fully licensed, premium Hanoverian stallion and mares to add to their exciting breeding program. Already boasting superstar bloodlines such as Donnerhall, Rotspon, Dimaggio and Western Star, they specifically wanted to diversify with top jumping lineage with dressage parentage as well.
"We went to look at the top sale prospects from the 2006 300 day performance test. Our eye kept turning to Lokomotion as he effortlessly cleared the (Measure) top height in the free jumping, conquered the cross country course and then danced in the ridden performance. We were repeatedly told he was being kept by the stud for his exceptional pedigree, largely Holsteiner, which they wanted for their breeding program. After trying the sales prospects we felt that although stunning in their own right, they were too similar to the stallions Dreammaster and Dreammaker who already stand at our stud. After much pleading, I was allowed to ride him. Even though this was the day after his cross country test and two mile gallop, he gave me a balanced, responsive and exhilarating experience. From that point on there was no other horse for us!"
After three weeks of negotiation including an arrangement for semen, Lokomotion was on his way to Canada. He was accompanied by the first of the state premium mare purchases, Wayana K (Worldly/Matcho AA/Brentano) in foal to St. Moritz (SandroHit/De Niro/Larnero). St. Moritz was the 2005 four year old champion at his stallion licensing in Verden and is son of World Champion and Bundeschampionat Champion Stallion Sandro Hit. St. Pr. Wayana K and Lokomotion are now both in quarantine at Dreamcatcher Meadows.
Why is this so exciting for North American breeding?
By breeding to Lokomotion, mare owners have access to an exceptional combination of proven bloodlines. Lokomotion's sire, Lordanos is exceptionally talented over fences. Scoring a perfect 10 for jumping at his performance test, he is easy to handle with unlimited scope, excellent bascule and leg technique. With an impeccable record from young horse classes (Bundeschampionat) and now in his grand prix career (Vice State Champion; ten first places at S class - 1.4 metres!), his progeny are enjoying the same success. His temperament is that of a family pet. Janne Sosath, the teenage daughter of his owner, has won with Lordanos at S class (he is competed by all three members of the owning family, including two teenagers). This outstanding attitude is passed on to his progeny. He sires uncomplicated, top sport horses that are easy to ride. With more than 20 licensed sons and progeny highly successful at international level he is the model of the modern sports sire.
Lokomotion's damsire, Landseiger, also had top performance tests and is successful in jumping competitions. Among his many wins are sixteen first place titles at S class. He has also produces three horses which are successful at S Level in Dressage. His Dam, St. Pr. First Lady produces six horses which are successful in show jumping - one at S level, four at M level (1.3 meters) and one at L level (1.2 meters)
Dr. Ludwig Christmann, international breed program director for the Hannoveraner Verband enthuses: "He is a big framed stallion with a lot of presence and good conformation, great temperament and rideability. He is very versatile and with his unusual but performance based pedigree should match many different types of mares: those with the classical dressage pedigrees and jumper mares as well." |
